Birthday Party: Second Post

Why make a blog? Where does the name come from?

Like it says on my "About Me" page, I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil (yes, in Portuguese it's written with an S, and I find it a bit foolish to change it for a Z), but I read mostly in English.  It's not because I don't like my language, or anything like that, it just became a habit, I guess.  I've lived in America for ten years, from when I was 15 years old, until I was 25 years old, and I've had a "love affair" with the romance world and with several authors that write in English. At first when I came back to Brasil I've tried buying books from my favorite authors in Portuguese, but it took forever for any book to come out to the book stores in Brasil, and Amazon.com would deliver books at my doorstep within a week of being release. After e-books, I was able to get them at the same time it was release on my kindle. Yes, it's hard to compete with Amazon outside of the US. They are very dominant worldwide.

Livros means books in Portuguese, and what I meant with my blog's name was that I have a lot more books written in English on my bookshelves, than in Portuguese.

Talking about my bookshelves... because I'm not really savvy with web design or things like that, I've used a real picture from one side of my in-home library to make my header, and to pay a homage for my first kindle (yes, he died a few years ago when I let him fall on the floor), I've chosen a picture of me with him to be my blog signature/button. You can see it at the end of any of my reviews or at the right corner of my blog page.

So, why did I make a blog? I have lots of people like my mom, my husband, my daughter even some friends that asks me that, almost daily. They say I usually don't have time for anything, but I loose sleep for blogging. lol How I see it, I've started this blog because I needed to talk about all the wonderful books I read and also about the not so wonderful ones, and I didn't know anyone in real life that was interested in hearing me out. They don't read the same books that I do, or when they do, they read the Portuguese translation months or years later.

That's why I've decided to give something back  on my blog anniversary. You are all very important to me. To each one of you that has ever read one of my reviews (here, on Amazon, Goodreads, Manic Readers, The Romance Reviews) or has ever visited my blog before and read one of my posts, I'm grateful that you have given a voice to my passion (reading). I feel like we are friends and I feel like we are close, because you understand my love of books.

Thank you all so so so much!!!
